Fred, Dog of Destiny, defied gravity and the typically low
expectations for Bassets everywhere.  Fred was adopted
on March 10, 2000, from our local Basset Rescue
Organization.  He was a year and a half old, and had
received no training.  But he had so much going for him. He
had no house training problems, was eager to enjoy new
adventures, and willing to meet new people and other
animals.  Fred was always game to try something, whether
it was tearing around an agility course, being well-behaved
in the presence of a
kitty (he'd do it for food), or hanging
out with kids who wanted to be around a therapy dog.  He
enjoyed hiking (at his own pace), watching TV, and working
on his sun tan.

Fred's job at the Happy Hound involved being demo-dog for
numerous tricks, being the calm dog when working with an
anxious dog, and, once again, being the calm dog when
working with a dog who needs to develop positive feelings
about the presence of another dog. He also had an
important PR role for all those people who insist "you can't
train a Basset Hound!"

"Hah!" said Fred.
